Assessment: Six points for Ferrari, a very pleasant surprise!

It’s a great reaction that Scuderia Ferrari demonstrated during the recent race weekend in England. Perhaps it’s because it was the last Grand Prix at Silverstone… In any case, the team brings home six new points after Räikkönen’s six points in Monaco. This time, it’s Felipe Massa who was very close to the podium but eventually finished in 4th position starting from 11th.
Kimi Räikkönen adds one point to the weekend’s total thanks to his 8th place. Both drivers demonstrated the effectiveness of their KERS during the race. A point to keep as is for the next F1 meeting in less than three weeks in Germany.
Felipe Massa – 4th:
« I almost feel like I won the race! Starting eleventh and finishing fourth is an excellent result. It wasn’t expected, and that’s why we are doubly happy. We had a good strategy, and I pushed to the maximum during the key moments. Today, the KERS was a great help, especially at the beginning, but the whole car was competitive as well. The team did an excellent job, and the results speak for themselves. We must continue in this direction. It would be interesting to understand how the car can improve in terms of performance from one day to the next. Maybe a few extra degrees to achieve a good tire temperature. »
Kimi Räikkönen – 8th:
« I had a good start to the race, but I was unable to attack as I wanted. Obviously, my position on the grid, given my fuel load, penalized me in terms of strategy. After the first stop, I found myself behind Trulli and from there, my race was pretty much over. I tried to overtake him, but overtaking is really difficult at Silverstone. Then I found myself battling against Glock, but I managed to defend my position which offered me one point thanks both to the KERS and to a good pace on my part. It’s frustrating because if my start had been better, I could have had a better result. One point is better than nothing. The car wasn’t bad on Sunday, much better than it had been during Saturday’s qualifying. »
Stefano Domenicali – Team Principal:
« After a qualification not so extraordinary, our goal was to get both cars in the points and we did it. Felipe [Massa] had a fantastic race starting from eleventh and finishing fourth. It’s a great performance. Kimi [Räikkönen] had a good start, helped by the KERS, but after that, he was unable to do better because of the traffic. We saw one team clearly ahead of the rest, but we showed that we can be at the same level as all the others. We will have to thoroughly study everything that happened this weekend to understand how the performance level can change so suddenly, all in all, without any changes made to the car. »
