The FOTA (Formula One Teams Association) will officially begin preparations for its new championship starting next week. Ross Brawn has made it clear that the teams want to focus on their series rather than finding a compromise with the FIA.
Although the president of the FIA, Max Mosley, believes that the manufacturers will eventually capitulate by signing up for next year, Brawn insists that the FOTA is only focused on one thing: Launching its new series.
When asked if he believed a compromise could be implemented that would lead to the presence of the constructors in F1 in 2010, Brawn said: « No, it won’t happen, the decision has been made by FOTA. The organization now needs to move forward with its ideas and projects. We can’t wait any longer. Every day, every week that passes, the chances for reconciliation are diminishing. »
Among the rumors circulating at the moment, television companies and promoters have already been contacted for the future championship. Brawn claims that work on developing the technical regulations for the championship will start in earnest next week.
« The meetings will start next week, and we will arrive at technical regulations that, in our opinion, will offer better racing at lower cost, » he explained.
Although Brawn’s position seems to indicate that no solution is possible in the war against the FIA, other team leaders are more conciliatory in their approach.
McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh claims it would be foolish for teams not to accept an offer presented by the FIA.
« For the moment, as we mentioned earlier in the week, the teams had a deadline. Faced with this deadline, the teams had asked for more time to find a solution. »
« Within this timeframe, the decision was made, but I think the teams are open to discussing with the governing body to know where we will go next year. »
