Saturday: Nakajima beats Rosberg at Williams, a first!

For the first time this season, the number 2 driver of the Williams team beats the number 1 driver during the qualifications of this year’s eighth round in Great Britain. Kazuki Nakajima proves impressive in terms of top speed while Nico Rosberg consistently secures a spot in the top 8.

This morning’s tests managed to boost the pilots’ confidence as they achieved a double victory just like the Red Bull drivers the day before. Once again, the German was ahead of the Japanese, but it was the opposite in qualifying. Kazuki Nakajima takes the upper hand with a 5th place compared to Nico Rosberg’s 7th position. The Grove team, racing at home this weekend, has the opportunity to score big points.

Kazuki Nakajima – 2nd and 5th:

Fifth in qualifying is the best result of my career, I am really happy. After yesterday’s practice, I thought we could be quite strong today because the car is working really well here. It seems we’ve made a step forward thanks to the team upgrading the car this weekend. My goal will be to have a solid race and score points for the team.

Nico Rosberg – 1st and 7th:

On the one hand, I am happy because we have made progress with the car and we are in the fight. On the other hand, it’s not the ideal day for me because I didn’t manage to get the best out of the car in Q3. I am very happy with the current level of the car. The team has done a fantastic job, even on this track which is normally one of the most difficult for us. Being fifth and seventh tonight shows that we are present. With a good strategy tomorrow, we must score points. And it’s very good for Kazuki [Nakajima] who has been fast all weekend. I will try to catch up with him tomorrow!

Sam Michael – Technical Director:

« It was a satisfying qualifying session for the team. Our car development program and the direction we are taking are more than correct. Kazuki’s performance in today’s qualifying was the best of his career, and he deserves it. He was very fast from practice through to qualifying. Nico [Rosberg] also did a good job and his strategy will pay off in the race. Our priority now is tomorrow’s race and devising the best strategy to score points with both cars. »
