British GP: Toyota is on track for victory

Two weeks ago, the Turkish Grand Prix marked Toyota’s big return to the points after two relatively difficult races. The Japanese team is confident for this English weekend as the Istanbul and Silverstone circuits share the same characteristics.

Like many drivers, Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock are eagerly anticipating this rendezvous across the Channel. The atmosphere is festive all weekend thanks to the fans, and they hope to continue celebrating without them on Sunday night after a victory. It would be a nice gift for this final British Grand Prix at Silverstone…

Jarno Trulli – Racing Driver

« It’s very encouraging to get back on track after our good result in Turkey. I believe we are starting from the front of the grid this year. It was important to bounce back and show our real level of competitiveness. The team has worked hard on development and we need to continue doing so to close the gap on the cars in front of us. I expect the TF109s to perform well at Silverstone. We have been very competitive on circuits with similar characteristics, our place should be at the front again. »

« Silverstone is a special place thanks to the fans who are passionate. Personally, I am not a fan of Silverstone because it hasn’t always been kind to me! Yet, I had one of the fastest cars last year on a wet track. But it’s a very important Formula 1 circuit and it will be a loss. If this is the last Silverstone Grand Prix, I hope to leave with good memories. »

Timo Glock – Racing Driver

« I am delighted about this British Grand Prix and I think we have our chances at Silverstone. It’s a pleasant circuit for a race because the fans are very enthusiastic about seeing Formula racing on their home ground. It is therefore a shame that this Silverstone Grand Prix is the last, but new sites can be just as exciting. The main characteristic of Silverstone is its speed, as there are magnificent fast curves that are very enjoyable for a driver. »

This year, I am particularly eager to get back to racing because our car should be competitive. We were really competitive in Turkey with some new parts on the car and we expect the same situation this weekend. It’s just unfortunate that things didn’t go as planned in qualifying in Istanbul, as I could have been with Jarno [Trulli] in the top six. I am really motivated to ensure everything goes as planned this weekend. We are close to the front of the grid and if we get the most out of our package, I believe we can compete with the best cars.

Pascal Vasselon – Deputy General Manager of Chassis:

We expect to be strong for this British Grand Prix, as the circuit should suit our package. So far this season, we have been very competitive on tracks that require a high degree of aerodynamic efficiency. Therefore, we have high hopes for Silverstone. With the exception of Monaco, we have been strong on all circuits and Turkey marked our return to the top level. Even though we are in the top three in terms of performance, we lack that infallible consistency that systematically places us in the race for victory. That is our goal and we are working hard to close the gap. We plan to build on our Turkish performances and provide our drivers with a competitive car this weekend.
