The return of the Canadian Grand Prix in 2010?

Negotiations to revive the Canadian Grand Prix, removed from the 2009 season, are still ongoing according to information coming from the country.

Normand Legault, the former promoter of the Montreal race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, told the national news agency CP that there remains a good chance the event will be back in 2010.

It is no secret that the city’s mayor, Gerald Tremblay, has been in talks with Bernie Ecclestone since the chief executive decided to drop the Canadian race.

The negotiations also involved local authorities, who are committed to contributing 10 million dollars (a little over 7 million euros) over five years if the Canadian Grand Prix were to return to the calendar.

According to the same information, the Gilles Villeneuve circuit would be a potential venue to host Formula 1 teams if they were to create their own series, as they continue to oppose the reforms of the FIA and Ecclestone.
