Nick Heidfeld, BMW-Sauber driver, has launched a major contest that gives the opportunity to partially design his helmet to be used for the occasion next month at his national Grand Prix at the Nurburgring (Germany). Jens Munser is Heidfeld’s long-time designer. He will do his basic work for this helmet before it is decorated by the manufacturing company Schuberth.
« The aim of this contest is to allow my fans to give free rein to their artistic talents for my race weekend at the Nurburgring, » said Heidfeld.
« I am eager to see the results from a creative standpoint. I’m always on the lookout for new ideas. In the case of my helmet, I was inspired by a snowboarder. »
However, rather than letting his fans resort to paper and pencils, Heidfeld created an online design tool, which can be accessed on his official website.
The tool includes not only a color palette for budding designers but also a selection of geometric shapes that can be used in their work.
The winning designer will be invited to the German Grand Prix with a full tour of the paddocks. This same person will personally present the helmet to Heidfeld before the first free practice. They will then take a seat in the VIP grandstand to enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Finally, at the end of Sunday’s race, the helmet will be presented to the German television channel RTL, then it will be auctioned off for charity.
Attention future designers: Designing the helmet is possible until June 28th and the German Grand Prix will take place from July 10th to 12th. So grab your paintbrushes, or rather your computer mouse…
