Williams undoubtedly delivered its best Grand Prix performance today in several weeks. The Grove team managed to take into account race strategies and the performance of its car to get the best out of its drivers.
Nico Rosberg finishes 5th after making a very good start. The German gains an advantage over 4 drivers at the first corner and takes off in pursuit of Trulli but cannot overtake him. Nakajima starts from far back but manages to climb up to 7th with a good strategy. However, he lost 20 seconds during his second pit stop due to a problem with the front-left wheel. He eventually finishes 12th but has good hopes for the upcoming Grand Prix races.
Nico Rosberg – 5th:
« I am very happy with this 5th place, especially for the team, because it is a very good result. I had a very good start, and I have to thank my engineers for that. It happened exactly as they told me in the first lap, and I was able to gain 4 positions. From there, I could push hard to overtake Trulli. I thought I could pass him, but in the end, his car was too fast today. I hope we can keep this good form for the upcoming races and score points in every race. I think we can consistently be in the top 8. »
Kazuki Nakajima – 12th:
« I had a good start and a solid first lap. Everything was fine until my second pit stop. What happened was really disappointing as up to that point, I was having the best race of my career. Beyond that, we were competitive and thanks to the engineers and the strategy, I was able to beat Räikkönen and Alonso in the race. We just need to learn from the mistake made at the pit stop and hope for a better result next time.
Sam Michael – Technical Director
« It was encouraging to score 4 points today. Nico [Rosberg] had a great start and drove solidly to take 5th place. It’s a shame we had that issue during Kazuki [Nakajima]’s pit stop. The wheel cover caused a problem. Without that, he could have finished 7th and in the points. So it’s a good day for the team nonetheless. »
