Summary: Kubica opens his account with BMW

This may only be 7th place, but Robert Kubica is happy. He scores his first points in this 2009 season. Added to Nick Heidfeld’s six, BMW currently has eight points in the constructors’ championship.

During this Turkish Grand Prix, Kubica still had a good race starting from 10th place. The assessment is more negative for Nick Heidfeld as he failed to move up from his 11th position. The team will continue its developments while still possessing the double diffuser.

Robert Kubica – 7th:

« I’m finally back in the points. I think I ran well today. My pace was good, and I didn’t make any mistakes. The race was very challenging, as almost always, I had a few very fast drivers behind me, and the slightest mistake would have cost me a position. It was very difficult to maintain a pace. However, finishing seventh is a step forward. »

Nick Heidfeld – 11th:

« For me, today, the race was disappointing because I lost all my chances at the beginning when I had a problem with the car. From the formation lap, I realized that the car was pulling to one side and that the front left tire had no grip. It was even worse when I braked. The start was okay since I ended up ninth. The situation was better in the second and third stints, but it was too late for points. Nevertheless, there is a positive side since the car has generally improved. »

Mario Theissen – Director of BMW Motorsport:

« It was an exciting race for us, from the start to the checkered flag. From the 10th place, Robert Kubica finished seventh and he therefore deserves these two points for his great commitment. Our cars weren’t fast enough to gain more ground compared to our competitors. Nick Heidfeld lost a lot of ground and many positions. He was therefore not able to fight for points. Conclusion of the weekend: Our car was quite fast today, we scored points thanks to our own performances. This is the basis for preparing our next stages of development. »
