Rankings after the Turkish GP

Seventh round of the season in the Formula 1 World Championship, the Turkish Grand Prix at the Istanbul Park circuit took place under a blazing sun. Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull had everything in hand to win this race, but a small mistake by the German allowed Jenson Button to lift his 6th trophy since March. Worse, Vettel let his teammate Mark Webber overtake him for 2nd position. Toyota and Williams showed they are still in the game. Jarno Trulli finished 4th while his teammate, Timo Glock, scored an extra point (8th). Nico Rosberg was 5th ahead of Felipe Massa for Ferrari and a returning Robert Kubica (BMW) in 7th. He scored his first points of the season. Rubens Barrichello for Brawn GP retired while Renault, McLaren, and Toro Rosso struggled.

In the driver standings, there is no change at the top of the championship in the first six positions. The only notable point is Vettel getting dangerously close to Barrichello. Button remains the leader with 61 points, followed by his Brazilian teammate (35), then Vettel (29), Webber (27.5), Trulli (19.5), and Glock (13). The first change is with Rosberg climbing to 7th place after his very good race in Turkey. He moves up 4 places and has 11.5 points.

Fernando Alonso drops by one position (8th) and is joined by Massa (+2 places) with 11 points. Kimi Räikkönen (-2 places) and Lewis Hamilton (-2 places) are tied in 10th position with 9 points. Further down, Heidfeld remains in 12th place ahead of Heikki Kovalainen and Sébastien Buemi. The last change is Kubica entering the standings, tied with Bourdais in 15th position.

In the constructor standings, Brawn GP is nearing 100 points, currently with 96 units. With Barrichello’s retirement, Red Bull slightly narrows the gap (56.5 points). Toyota is now further back with 32.5 units. The Japanese team must now be wary of Ferrari still in 4th with 20 points. Like Rosberg, McLaren remains in 5th position. Williams signs the best progress of the week with a gain of one place (6th with 11.5 units) at the expense of Renault now in 7th. BMW, still 8th, is closing in with 8 points, while Toro Rosso remains 9th and Force India still brings up the rear.
