Sébastien Bourdais, driver for Scuderia Toro Rosso, arrives at the Istanbul circuit filled with hope after his strong performance in Monaco. Indeed, the Frenchman scored the second point of the season on a very unique urban track. In Turkey, he firmly believes that his car will be up to the task.
His teammate, the young Swiss Sébastien Buemi, will also be present. He knows the Turkish circuit very well from his recent seasons in GP2. After several lackluster races, he really wants to reveal his true potential.
Sébastien Bourdais – Race Car Driver
« The weekend in Monaco went quite well, which is always good for morale. It was a good race and I hope we can continue to move forward with this same momentum for Turkey. We are starting to have a better understanding of what we are doing with this car, which should allow us to achieve more performance. »
« In Istanbul, we are going to launch the car in a way that, we hope, will generate a good step forward. So far this year, we have been waiting for Friday’s practice sessions to create the right set-up. This weekend, we will start with a good idea of what we want to do. Then, we will be able to make progress over the rest of the weekend. »
« As for the Istanbul track, it is fun to drive, even if it lacks a bit of grip. For turn 8, we need a stable and balanced car. »
Sébastien Buemi – Racing Driver:
I raced here twice in GP2, finishing on the podium in third place last year, so I have good memories of Turkey. I really like this very modern, very fast circuit with turn 8 as the highlight. I’ve always felt comfortable here, so I’m not too worried and I hope it’ll be the same this year, for my first time in F1.
« Our car is better, even if it’s true, I’ve had three difficult weekends. In Bahrain, I was unlucky after taking a piece of Kubica’s car that got stuck in my front wing, in Spain someone pushed me, and in Monaco, I made a mistake. »
« I tell myself that I’m in Formula 1 and I’m going to try to do my best, so there’s no need to fight more. I just want to move forward and hope that from Turkey onwards, things will improve and we can look to score points. I think that with what we learned about the car in Monaco, we should be able to use its full potential from now on. Istanbul should provide a clearer picture of where we really are.
