The Toro Rosso team sent an apology email to Renault after the Monaco Grand Prix. The Italian team did so after the race, during which the Swiss driver, Sébastien Buemi, braked too abruptly at Sainte-Dévote, taking Nelson Piquet’s (Renault) car with him.

This accident occurring on the eleventh lap had repercussions on the rest of the race. Piquet Junior then criticized the young driver’s level after assuming that seventh place was probable. “It was really a frustrating race for me,” admitted the Brazilian.

« I got off to a good start by gaining a position at the first corner, but a few laps later I was hit by Sébastien Buemi, which damaged my car and ended my race. »

« It’s very frustrating because I had a good race strategy, I was heavy on fuel, and I could probably score some points. Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do in these situations. I need to put the disappointment behind me and focus on this weekend in Turkey. »

As a reminder, Piquet entered the sport at the beginning of the 2008 season. After six races in 2009 and 18 last year, the Brazilian has never outqualified his teammate, Fernando Alonso. The executive director of engineering, Pat Symonds, remains confident in both his drivers.

« Nelson continues to improve and strengthen as the season progresses. In Monaco, he was very close to Fernando in qualifying and, given his high level of performance, I think he can be proud of the work accomplished. He was very unlucky in the race and there is absolutely no responsibility placed on Nelson. As proof, we received an email from Toro Rosso apologizing for the incident! »
