Adam Khan conducts aerodynamic tests for Renault

Adam Khan, demonstration driver at Renault, recently assisted the team during its straight-line aerodynamic tests as part of its aerodynamic development program, which took place at Duxford in Cambridgeshire (Great Britain). These two events were the first opportunity for Khan to drive the team’s 2009 single-seater: the R29. The young driver shares his impressions after this test:

Adam, you have now spent two days behind the wheel of the R29. How did these two test sessions go?

« These two aerodynamic tests were a very good experience for me and I really appreciated the opportunity to drive the R29 and help in its development. Even though these tests were only in a straight line, I hope I did a good job and provided valuable feedback to the engineers. »

You are also the demonstration driver for the team and you drive the R28 at a number of events. How do you compare these experiences with driving the R29?

« With the aerodynamic restrictions this year, I really felt the difference during these tests because I’m used to driving the R28. In fact, when you’re in the cockpit, the two cars seem the same but there are quite a few differences in the buttons on the steering wheel on the R29. I got used to it very quickly. »

Did you enjoy driving at Spa Francorchamps in early May?

« Driving an F1 on one of the most mythical circuits in the world was an immense privilege. Spa has always been one of my favorite circuits: it is fast and smooth at the same time. There is so much history at Spa. Approaching Eau Rouge was perhaps the most impressive part, but the circuit as a whole is perfect for appreciating the speed, grip, and performance of an F1. »

When will your next event be?

I will participate in the World Series by Renault at Silverstone on July 4th and 5th. I will be behind the wheel of the R28 again and I am really looking forward to it because Silverstone is a bit like my ‘neighborhood’, it’s close to home. It’s another superb circuit with some good, very fast corners. I think a lot of fans will be present at this event, so I am very eager to drive the R28 in front of the crowd.

You will be present at a few Grand Prix events with the team this year. Which event are you looking forward to attending?

« In Abu Dhabi. This will be the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and I can’t wait to discover the new circuit and the surrounding facilities that promise to be impressive. My family has its roots in this region of the world, so I am even more eager to experience the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix. »

According to a press release from the Renault F1 Team.
