BMW confirms the double diffuser in Turkey

The BMW-Sauber team has confirmed that the double diffuser will finally come into play at the end of the week for the Turkish Grand Prix.

After struggling ten days ago at the Monaco Grand Prix to find a semblance of performance, the Hinwil-based team will bring the new diffuser to Istanbul, hoping for a revival this season. Indeed, BMW’s record to date is quite poor with only six points thanks to Nick Heidfeld.

BMW Motorsport boss, Mario Theissen, admitted that the team did not expect such a start to the season after achieving their first victory last year.

However, he insisted that the team can handle this situation and will continue to work to emerge from this crisis.

« Our results before the Turkish Grand Prix leave us with a rather bitter feeling. No one within the team expected this, » stated Theissen.

« After taking a step forward in Spain, we simply weren’t up to speed in Monaco. To regain our competitiveness, we need to significantly increase our development pace. In Istanbul, it will be the next step in our development with the use of a double diffuser for the first time. »

« After three years of success, this phase is our first setback. We can fight it. After all, it’s the same team in Munich and Hinwil that has been ensuring our progress since the creation of BMW-Sauber F1 Team. We are all very determined to get back to the forefront, » concluded the German.
