Slight slump this weekend for the Red Bull team. They leave Monaco with only four points. Yet, both drivers were comfortably in the top 10 on the starting grid. Sebastian Vettel struggled throughout the race with his tires. He was the first to stop for a pit stop. The aim was to change his tires.
Unfortunately, a few laps later, a late braking sends him into the wall and it’s a retirement!
Fortunately, Red Bull can count on its second driver, Mark Webber. He has a good race, finishing 5th but unable to do better compared to the Ferraris and especially the Brawn.
Mark Webber – 5th:
« We are very happy with the fifth place. We are gaining a number of points after a tough qualifying session. There are a few more people who came this Sunday. These points are a good thing for us in the Constructors’ Championship. The guys have worked this weekend to install a batch of new parts. »
Sebastian Vettel – Retirement:
« Not much to say. I may have braked a little too late, locking the rear tires. I lost control of the car and then hit the wall. Of course, we lost a lot of time in the first stint with the soft tires. We were convinced they would be effective in the first stint but no! Of course, it’s disappointing. In Monaco, you make a small mistake and you pay the price immediately. »
Christian Horner – Team Principal
« A good performance by Mark Webber today. He lost some time in the first stint behind Kovalainen, but then managed to get closer to the Ferraris. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough in the final stint. Therefore, fifth place is the best possible result. Sebastian Vettel had an aggressive strategy. His tires degraded very quickly. As a result, we made his first pit stop quite early to change his tires. Unfortunately, a few laps later, he had an accident at Ste. Devote. All the guys gave their all this weekend, and four points is not really a fair reward. »
