Saturday: Brawn GP and Button, simply astounding!

It is now almost certain that Button will be the future champion, just like Brawn GP in the constructors’ championship. Nothing seems to stop them anymore; the team works perfectly during its free practice sessions to be impeccable on Saturday in qualifying and Sunday in the race. As evidence, during this morning’s practice sessions, both drivers were still making some adjustments (2nd and 4th only).

But this afternoon, as usual, the BGP001 were perfect, so it’s only logical that the Briton secures another pole position and his teammate, Barrichello, is not far behind in 3rd place. On a typically urban track, Brawn GP seems even stronger.

Jenson Button – 2nd and 1st:

« It was important to qualify well in Monaco, and I am really happy to have achieved pole position today. It means a lot to me; it is more than important for tomorrow’s race. It was a real battle today, and I think Rubens [Barrichello] would have deserved this pole as well because he has been strong all weekend. I struggled on Thursday to find a good balance, and we had a few problems that needed to be worked on, but we’ve made some changes since then. I have never really thanked everyone at the Brackley and Mercedes-Benz factory, and I do so now. Tomorrow’s race in Monaco is so unpredictable, but starting from the pole is undoubtedly the best position. »

Rubens Barrichello – 4th and 3rd:

« Well, I had a good run today at the end of the last qualifying session. Jenson [Button] was fantastic! I am very happy with my position for tomorrow’s race, anything is possible. Of course, I am sad not to have secured pole position, but the car has been running really well since the beginning of the weekend. It’s my 17th Monaco Grand Prix, but that special feeling doesn’t change. It will be an exciting race. »

Ross Brawn – Team Principal:

A very good day at work for the team with many laps completed with Jenson and Rubens. A third pole position for the most important qualifying session of the season. This one symbolizes real success and puts us in a strong position for tomorrow’s race. Jenson had to work very hard on his setup. He was struggling with a lack of grip all weekend before making the difference this afternoon. Rubens, as always, was excellent in securing an honorable position. The cars around us will also be competitive, it will be a very interesting race.
