The start of the weekend in Monaco is better than in Spain for Ross Brawn’s new team. Indeed, the team had a few scares in Barcelona that they did not repeat this week in Monaco. It was Rubens Barrichello who outperformed his teammate Jenson Button. The Brazilian finished both sessions in the top 3, leading the first session.
The current leader in the Driver’s Championship is also very happy with his single-seater, which is perfect, consistent, and balanced. He finished Thursday a bit further back, although still in the top 8.
Rubens Barrichello – 1st and 3rd:
« We had a good first day to start this weekend in Monaco. I love this urban driving even though there is currently a lack of grip, but this situation should improve as we head towards qualifying on Saturday. We were able to evaluate a lot of things, with positive results. I had a few oversteers in the car, but all of this was controlled and I am very satisfied with the balance. So, we can be optimistic, even if we expect a tough challenge. We will need to work hard before qualifying because securing a good position on the grid is very important.
Jenson Button – 8th and 4th:
« We are heading in the right direction because the day has been a challenge for me. I had an issue with the rear of the car in the corners. I wasn’t very comfortable in the car. But we were able to make a good setup with changes in the afternoon. My last run on the softest tires was much better. Achieving a good balance is very important here. If we continue to make improvements, it should be a good weekend. »
Ross Brawn – Team Principal
« The Monaco Grand Prix presents a number of challenges, and we worked hard today to familiarize ourselves with the conditions and prepare for the upcoming weekend. The biggest challenge was finding enough air for the cars to run well and achieving a clear read on our setup. Jenson had a bit more garage work in the afternoon. Overall, it’s a very good start to the weekend, which allowed Rubens and Jenson to acclimate to the car. This puts us in a good position before Saturday. »
