Thursday: Ferrari closes in on the leading pack

Ferrari may be making its big comeback on the world’s most legendary circuit, Monte Carlo. The Scuderia had a very good first day of testing, which as usual took place on Thursday in Monaco. The slow corners might suit the F60.

There will be a duel against the other competitors, but also an internal duel since Felipe Massa and Kimi Räikkönen are currently tied in points (3 units each). A leader should emerge to lead their team on the path to victory.

Felipe Massa – 2nd and 5th:

« It is difficult to say if there has been an improvement since Barcelona, but we are among the leading teams, which is already a good sign. Everything went well right from the start of the day when we worked on the race. From what we saw yesterday, our car seems to be fast and consistent. Last year, I secured pole position, and today I immediately felt comfortable working on the car’s settings. The soft tires are significantly faster, but after ten laps or more, you start to lose time. However, we must keep in mind that track conditions change a lot. »

Kimi Räikkönen – 5th and 8th:

« We worked as normally as possible. A day based on evaluating the two types of tires that Bridgestone brought here and on finding the best setup for the car. I would say it is pleasant to drive. There are still some areas where we can improve, but I am happy with what we achieved today. Driving here is always a challenge, even if Sunday’s race can be rather boring, with few overtakes. »

Chris Dyer – Chief Engineer

« It’s always important to start the weekend in Monaco without any problems, and we can be happy to have succeeded today. Time lost in free practice can have more impact here. Regarding the setup, both drivers are reasonably satisfied with the F60, although obviously, there is still much to do. The choice of tires for the race is particularly interesting here, given that both types are soft. Qualifying will be the key to the race as usual. Generally, on this track, the times are very close, and this year they are even closer. »
