BMW-Sauber has planned an improvement to its KERS for the Turkish Grand Prix next month, indicated team director Mario Theissen.
He claims that the new KERS will have a better package and the team hopes that this will allow its drivers to have a better balance on their car.
The new package was designed with the upgrades introduced at the Spanish Grand Prix last weekend in mind, but the German team decided not to use it for the moment in order to focus entirely on aerodynamic improvements.
« We have developed the aerodynamic package and, in parallel, we are developing a new KERS that aligns with this new aerodynamic package, » said Theissen.
« The two programs were on the schedule, but we decided not to combine them. We must first ensure that the new aerodynamic package is operational; we only have Friday and Saturday morning to test it. »
« And if we have a new KERS at the same time, it will be too much. We plan to combine them in Istanbul, Turkey. »
The team will therefore not have KERS for the Monaco Grand Prix, where Theissen explains it will be of no help.
« It was clear from the beginning of the season not to use it in Monaco as it would not benefit us, » he concluded while speaking about the kinetic energy recovery system.
