Great Britain could be absent from the 2010 calendar, only to return in 2011. This was declared by Bernie Ecclestone after a meeting with Simon Gillett, representative of the Donington Park circuit.
The major financier of Formula 1 spoke with the newspaper The Times as rumors suggest that the official circuit in Leicestershire might not be ready in time by June 2010. As a reminder, the plan is for Donington Park to take over from Silverstone to host the British Grand Prix.
Ecclestone therefore stated that it was possible to postpone the arrival of Formula 1 in Donington to 2011.
« If the work at Donington is not completed on time, we would be happy to wait another year, » said the 78-year-old Brit, dismissing the possibility that Silverstone could host the race in 2010.
« I don’t want to lose the British Grand Prix, that’s the last thing we want to see, but we won’t be going to Silverstone anymore, that’s for sure, » added Ecclestone.
