The former co-owner of Super Aguri, Fumio Akita, has refuted rumors of a possible return to Formula 1 following the introduction of a budget cap.
While the FIA announced that a budget cap of 40 million pounds will be introduced for the 2010 season, the latest speculations in the Japanese media suggested a possible return of Super-Aguri.
However, today, Akita stated that there was no way for the team to return to the sport, even with a budget cap.
« There is absolutely no chance. Even without the global financial crisis and its effects on the Japanese economy, we couldn’t afford it, » Akita told Reuters.
« We have already left the sport once because we did not have the resources to continue. Even if we had 60 million dollars to spend (more than 44 million euros), we have nothing as a basis for a possible return. »
« We do not know where these rumors come from but Aguri also stated that there was no chance. »
The Super Aguri team withdrew from Formula 1 a year ago due to financial difficulties.
