Red Bull also threatens to walk away in 2010

Red Bull follows Toyota’s statements by declaring that it will not participate in the world championship next year under the current regulations.

Toyota President John Howett openly issued a threat this weekend in Barcelona about not participating in the 2010 championship. Other teams like Ferrari and BMW would also oppose Max Mosley and wish to halt the budget cap project.

« The current conditions in view of the 2010 regulation do not favor our participation in the sport, » said the owner of the Red Bull team, Dietrich Mateschitz. He also stated this during this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix. His interview is published today in the sections of the Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten.

The billionaire added that other teams would also be absent. Among them, only two or three would remain in F1.

The deadline to apply for the 2010 season has been set for May 29.

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh stated on Sunday after a two-hour FOTA meeting that threats to not meet the deadline are not helpful.

However, depending on the results of a meeting with Mosley in London next week, the FOTA may announce a widespread boycott on this deadline of May 29.
