The rankings after the Spanish GP

Races follow one another and start to look alike… For the fourth time in five races, Jenson Button from Brawn GP takes victory at the Spanish Grand Prix. His teammate, Rubens Barrichello, finishes 2nd ahead of Mark Webber (Red Bull). Following are Sebastian Vettel, also in a Red Bull, then Fernando Alonso (Renault) in 5th position in front of his fans. Felipe Massa (Ferrari), Nick Heidfeld (BMW), and Nico Rosberg (Williams) score points. Toyota and McLaren are completely out of the picture.

In the standings, the two Brawn drivers are still leading, with Button of course ahead of Barrichello (41 to 27 points). The gap continues to widen. The second strongest team is clearly Red Bull, with its two drivers in 3rd and 4th place in the championship. Vettel is ahead of Webber with 23 and 15.5 points respectively. The Australian gains two places, moving ahead of the Toyota drivers.

Precisely, they score no points and lose a place, so they are now 5th and 6th with Trulli still ahead of Glock. Alonso (+1 place) comes up alongside Hamilton in 7th position with 9 points. Heidfeld remains in 9th position with 6 points. Rosberg (4.5 points), with one more point today, moves ahead of Kovalainen. The Ferrari drivers are in 11th position with Sebastien Buemi, all of them have 3 points. The Frenchman Sébastien Bourdais still has only one.

From now on, there are only 5 drivers left who have not scored a point: Robert Kubica, Nelson Piquet, Kazuki Nakajima, Giancarlo Fisichella, and Adrian Sutil.

In the constructors’ standings, Brawn GP increases its lead with now 68 points, far ahead of Red Bull (2nd) and Toyota (3rd) with 38.5 and 26.5 points respectively. Toyota is therefore losing ground this race weekend in Spain. McLaren remains in 4th place but must beware of Renault in 5th place, which now has 9 points.

Ferrari (+3 places) joins BMW in 6th place with 6 points. Williams is still in 8th position while Toro Rosso drops to 9th place (-3 places). The GP came to a halt for the team at the first corner! Force India still hasn’t scored any points in 10th place.
