Red Bull reassures itself this Saturday as it achieves a very good qualifying session. It confirms that it is the second force on the grid behind Brawn GP. There was concern last night since Red Bull relied too much on its winter data to apply it yesterday, except that conditions at the Barcelona circuit have changed somewhat between March and May.
Nothing serious since she caught up with her delay. Vettel ranks 2nd on the starting grid. His teammate is on the 3rd row in 5th position. Both drivers completed superb timed laps in Q1 and Q2. The Austrian team will be fighting for the victory.
Sebastian Vettel – 16th and 2nd:
« I felt very comfortable in the car today. The lap time in Q3 was good, unfortunately, not good enough to beat Jenson Button who takes pole at the last minute! But second on the grid, on the front row is important, especially since doubts had set in yesterday after practice. The conditions were different compared to winter testing, but we managed to catch up today. We also made adjustments this morning following the practice sessions before qualifying. It worked, I’m very happy. We only needed one run in Q1 and another with the soft tires in Q2. It’s excellent work, and my compliments to the whole team for the hard work.
Mark Webber – 13th and 5th:
« It’s a bit disappointing. I would have liked to do better in Q3 and I could have done it. Q2 was good, but it’s not the most important session. We are fifth, so let’s wait until tomorrow to see what we can do. Thanks to the Red Bull team, they’re doing a good job this weekend. »
Christian Horner – Team Principal:
« A very interesting qualifying session, in the end, it was really tight between Jenson Button and Sebastian [Vettel]. We believe we have a good strategy for tomorrow, we look forward to the fuel levels of the teams, but our performance in Q1 and Q2 is very impressive. Mark [Webber] particularly worked hard in Q2, which is encouraging for tomorrow. »
