Bernie Ecclestone firmly believes that Formula 1 is perfectly suited to Scuderia Ferrari amid disagreements between FIA President Max Mosley and the Italian team.
Mosley and Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo have been at loggerheads since the World Council approved the idea of a budget cap for the 2010 season. The Italian then stated that Formula 1 would become a two-tier championship.
The FIA president then responded that the sport could survive without Ferrari, the only team present in the championship since 1950.
Ecclestone believes that Mosley simply wanted to put di Montezemolo in his place. The Formula 1 supremo thinks that the sport is the perfect place for Ferrari.
« I don’t think that Max [Mosley] really meant what he said, he just wanted to respond to Luca [di Montezemolo], » Ecclestone told Reuters.
« Formula 1 is made for Ferrari and Ferrari is made for Formula 1. It’s just a marriage, one of those unions that work well. »
He also believes that the Italian team will be back on top after a bad start to this 2009 season.
« They will catch up, » declared Ecclestone. « I believe that even without Jean Todt, they are slowly going back to the ‘Todt’ way. »
