Ecclestone will protect Ferrari regarding the budget cap

Bernie Ecclestone stated that he will protect Ferrari’s position in its fight with Max Mosley, president of the FIA, over the introduction of a budget cap.

Ferrari’s president Luca di Montezemolo stated last week that this new rule change could cause serious harm to the sport.

In response to this, Mosley replied this weekend that Formula 1 could survive without Ferrari if the team couldn’t adapt to these rules.

Speaking to the newspaper The Times, Ecclestone will not let Mosley destroy Ferrari.

« I will not let that happen, » the F1 chief financial officer said.

« The problem with Luca [di Montezemolo] is that you must not put Max [Mosley] in a position where no debate or counter-argument is possible. He is quite intelligent, and you will not win. »

« It’s like right now between you and me in front of an audience. I have the microphone, you want to say something but I don’t give it to you so you can’t say anything, it’s as simple as that. »

However, Ecclestone insisted on the idea of this budget cap which could still work if the teams and the FIA agree on the important points.

« It seems that everyone is in favor of this regulation, including Ferrari. If we can get them to agree, we will try, » added Ecclestone.
