As we announced yesterday, the Force India team is getting a fresh start in Bahrain by bringing new aerodynamic parts to its cars. The FIA’s decision on the legality of the ‘double’ diffuser is pushing the Indian team to change theirs starting this weekend.
However, Force India had planned these developments in its development program simply to keep up with the other teams. A week ago in China, Adrian Sutil was 6 laps away from achieving the feat that the team has been waiting for several months: to score points. This week on the Sakhir circuit, the German and his teammate Giancarlo Fisichella will attempt to finish the job…
Giancarlo Fisichella – Racing Driver:
« I feel very optimistic about driving in Bahrain. We will have new parts on the car coming directly from the factory. I hope they will bring an overall improvement in pace on track. We still have a way to go to finish the race in the points, but at least it allows us to maintain our competitiveness. »
Adrian Sutil – Racing Driver:
« The team should be proud of the race in China. Of course, I’m disappointed not to have scored any points, but you have to focus on the next race. Certainly, we deserved the points, but we don’t give up because there are always other opportunities. We are now looking forward to Bahrain, which is a race I love. There’s something very different about desert races. »
« The objectives in Bahrain will be the same as in China. I want to finish the work started in Shanghai, but I think it will be very difficult here. I want to maintain the reliability we have shown so far this year, it’s my best start to a season since I came to F1 in 2007. The new parts we will bring from the tests will allow us to stay close to our competitors. »
Vijay Mallya – President and Team Principal:
We are considering implementing a significant aerodynamic upgrade for the Bahrain Grand Prix, including a new floor and diffuser. As usual, we know that points will be very difficult to achieve. Yes, Adrian [Sutil] was very strong in China, reaching our ultimate goal much sooner than expected, but we must not take the Chinese Grand Prix as an indicator of our overall form. Instead, we need to focus once again on the reliability and consistency of the VJM02.
