The major projects of South Korea…

The construction of the new South Korean circuit began in South Jeolla Province in preparation for hosting its first Formula 1 race in October 2010.

With a length of 5.6 kilometers including a 1,100-meter straight, this track promises to be the longest in Asia.

Located about 350 kilometers southwest of Seoul, the site plans show enough space to accommodate the possible 135,000 spectators, including 120,000 in the grandstands. The circuit, designed by Hermann Tilke, features a section overlooking the harbor with stands facing the ocean as well as the Pitlane. The drivers will be racing counterclockwise.

It is a semi-permanent track managed jointly by private and public organizations. The Korean Grand Prix has a seven-year contract extending from 2010 to 2016, with an option for renewal.

The site developer, the Korean company Valley Operation (KaVo), expects the work to be completed by early summer 2010, leaving a four-month gap before the first Korean Grand Prix.

Find the first images of the circuit in the photo album ‘The F1 Circuit of South Korea’ on the side.
