Sam Michael rejects the accusations about his diffusers

Sam Michael, technical director of Williams F1, has put an end to all rumors suggesting that the FW-31 could be illegal for the 2009 season.

The FW31 powered by Toyota, as well as the Brawn GP and the Toyota, received criticism regarding their rear diffusers, related to a design potentially exploiting a loophole in the 2009 regulations.

The Australian was adamant about stopping the speculation raised by Renault F1 director, Flavio Briatore.

« Our team perfectly follows the regulations, » explained Sam Michael to The Mirror, « I don’t know why there are all these stories. »

During the Australian Grand Prix this weekend, concerns about tensions within the paddock will surely arise.

In such circumstances, only the stewards present in Melbourne will make the decision to determine whether the cars in question are within the regulations.

« Rather than throwing their hands up and saying, ‘We didn’t think about this because we hadn’t looked at the regulations in detail,’ people are complaining, » concludes Sam Michael.
