Super Formula or F1, the dilemma of Liam Lawson in Mexico
The New Zealand driver is replacing the injured Daniel Ricciardo indefinitely. Liam Lawson could still be behind the wheel in Mexico, but on the same day, the final round of the Super Formula championship is taking place, where he could potentially be crowned champion.
It could be a tough choice. Racing in Formula 1 or winning a Super Formula title? Liam Lawson finds himself in this situation. The young driver has been called up by Red Bull to replace the injured Daniel Ricciardo, who was injured in an accident during the Dutch Grand Prix.
His convalescence was supposed to be over for the Qatar Grand Prix, but there seem to be complications. The Australian’s return could be much later. This would mean that Liam Lawson could continue his adventure until the Mexican Grand Prix and even beyond.
In a race to become the Super Formula champion
However, the appointment in Mexico is taking place at the same time as the final round of the Super Formula, a championship in which the Kiwi is involved and where he can still win the title. But the current driver of AlphaTauri would have already made his decision.
« I think I will finish the Super Formula season at this stage, yes. There is enough time before our final round for Daniel to come back. For now, it’s a race-by-race situation here, but I should have enough time », Liam Lawson thinks.
The New Zealander is in second place in the championship with 86 points, which is eight points behind the leader, Ritomo Miyata. In the last event, there will be 46 points left to distribute.
