“It’s for Wikipedia,” Max Verstappen responds to Toto Wolff’s comments
The boss of the Mercedes team had stated that he didn't care about Max Verstappen's streak of wins, after the Italian Grand Prix. The Dutch driver responded by asserting that Toto Wolff made these remarks following the poor performance of the Silver Arrows.
The attacks continue to fly between the Mercedes and Red Bull teams. After Max Verstappen’s tenth consecutive victory at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, Toto Wolff, the boss of the German team, was in a teasing mood. The Austrian indicated that this record established by the Red Bull driver meant nothing to him.
« The situation was a bit different because there were two guys fighting against each other within the team. I don’t know if [Max Verstappen] cares about records. For me, these numbers are not important, it’s for Wikipedia, and anyway, no one reads it », he stated.
« It almost seems like he is a member of our team sometimes »
Two weeks after these comments, Max Verstappen was asked if he had been hurt and disappointed by them. The Dutchman replied that he hadn’t been affected by the words of the Mercedes boss and took the opportunity to tackle him.
« They had a pretty shitty race, so he was probably still mad about their performance [5th and 6th]. It almost looks like he’s an employee of our team sometimes. But no, fortunately. I think it’s important to focus on our own team. That’s what we’re doing as well. That’s what we did in the past, when we were behind them and they were dominating, and I think it’s important to appreciate a team’s good results, which we did in the past because it also served as inspiration », declared the current double world champion.
