Liam Lawson, replacing Ricciardo, arrives in Singapore, at his favorite circuit

For the moment, he is leaving a lasting impression. Liam Lawson arrived at Zandvoort at short notice to replace Daniel Ricciardo following the Australian’s accident during the second free practice session. Behind the wheel of the AlphaTauri, the New Zealander immediately impressed with a 13th place finish. One week later, in Monza, the young driver was very close to scoring points with an 11th place finish.

After two weeks off, Liam Lawson was able to focus on the Singapore circuit. It is an extremely physical track in the streets of the city-state. Even though it may seem challenging for a driver with little experience, the one who races in Super Formula enjoys Singapore and believes he can perform well.

An affection for urban circuits

« I was in Singapore last year as a reserve pilot. When I was a child, it was my favorite circuit. I think it’s because it was a night race and it looked really cool. I used to play on Formula 1 video games all the time, he reveals.

« I know that it’s a very physically demanding race, and when you’re thrown into F1 in this situation, even with all the training in the world, it’s still a difficult adjustment. It will be extremely challenging, but we’ve trained and done everything we could to prepare for it. Last year, I experienced the nighttime routine. »

In addition to being his favorite circuit, Liam Lawson mentions enjoying all the city circuits, such as Monaco or Azerbaijan. « I expect Singapore to please me as well. »

Last year, the Singapore circuit was successful for the AlphaTauri drivers as they made it to Q3. Pierre Gasly even secured a point.
