Liam Lawson is aiming for points at Monza
For his second Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo's replacement narrowly missed out on Q3. He believes he has a chance to break into the top 10 during the race.
He gives a very good impression. One week after his first Grand Prix finished in 13th place, Liam Lawson continues his learning at the wheel of F1 cars, at Monza. The New Zealander is still replacing the injured Daniel Ricciardo.
For his second race, the young Super Formula driver manages to compete evenly with Yuki Tsunoda, his teammate. During qualifying, he achieved the 12th fastest time, two tenths behind the Japanese driver, and one place ahead. However, he believes that he could have done better.
A missed Q3 by a small margin
“« Both cars being so close to Q3, we really had the potential to make it, but unfortunately, Alonso went off track right in front of me, so there was some gravel on my trajectory,” Liam Lawson explained.
The New Zealander will try to make up for it during the race. He believes that finishing in the top 10 is still possible, especially with this starting position. « It’s a good starting position, and with the two cars so close to each other, I am positive about the points the team will be able to score. »
