Asmer and Villa in Jerez with BMW-Sauber

Marko Asmer and Javier Villa will join the BMW-Sauber team for the upcoming tests at the Jerez circuit next week, the German team confirmed.

Asmer, the English F3 champion, will participate just like Villa in these tests on December 4. The two drivers will share the day reserved for them, meaning one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Asmer will then return to the heat of the action on December 7, when he will drive the car all day.

Villa, who raced in GP2 in 2007 where he achieved three victories, will make his debut at the wheel of an F1 car. He hopes to impress the German team.

« All I can say is that I am very happy. This is my debut in an F1 car, and doing it with BMW means a lot to me. It’s one of the best teams, one of the biggest, and it progresses steadily. I couldn’t be happier, » said Villa.

« It is obvious that I will not set a new roadmap, but I am a professional and I want to compete with other drivers. I will do my job the best I can and try to give them a good impression. »

« After Glock’s departure, the team is looking for a driver. It would be very good for me if they choose me. In any case, I will give my utmost during these tests. »

Asmer drove for the Williams team in 2003, when he was only 19 years old. And although he never drove on the Jerez circuit, he says he feels more than ready to prove his potential to the team.

« It is a privilege to have the opportunity to participate in tests with a team, and I want to thank Mario Theissen and the entire team, which I really appreciate. Jerez is a circuit I don’t know, but I’ve heard it’s a real pleasure to drive there, » said Asmer for autosport.com.

« I have already met someone from BMW Sauber and the team is already in the meticulous preparation for its 2008 year. I am eager to drive the single-seater and help the team with its program. »

BMW is actively searching for a test driver following the departure of Timo Glock.
