Each team has in its roster a management of young drivers and future team drivers. They may also have an academy, as is the case with Mercedes, Ferrari, Alpine, Sauber, or even Red Bull.

Jérôme d’Ambrosio is now taking over the responsibility for the development of young drivers within Mercedes. Up until now, it was Toto Wolff who was in charge. He had notably helped Esteban Ocon secure a seat at Alpine and Nyck de Vries to join AlphaTauri this season.

Jérôme d’Ambrosio is well acquainted with Formula 1. Former F1 driver, notably with Marussia during the 2011 season, he also raced a Grand Prix with Lotus Renault in 2012, replacing Romain Grosjean (archives), who was banned from racing following a massive crash at the start of the race in Belgium.

In 2022, the Belgian was in charge of the Venturi Formula E team, which was renamed Maserati this winter.
