Red Bull has been very impressive from the first Grand Prix weekend, enough to kill the competition? That's not the opinion of Helmut Marko and Christian Horner, who expect their rivals to come back strongly in the upcoming races.

Red Bull expects a response from its competitors in the upcoming races

After the first Grand Prix of the season, one of the emerging trends is that Red Bull is leading the pack in the race for the title. With a first and second place finish in the first weekend, and a very good race pace, one may wonder who can really challenge the Austrian team. With Ferrari’s failures and the gap with Mercedes, Red Bull’s main competitors have not been able to hinder them. For many F1 stakeholders, notably George Russell, the idea that Red Bull could win every race of the season is highly probable.

However, Helmut Marko, advisor at Red Bull, sees things differently. It wouldn’t bother me if it’s a boring year, but I don’t believe it will be (Note: winning every race). It’s only one race, and it’s a specific race also because of the tarmac (Note: much more abrasive for tires). All races are different. Jeddah is much faster, for example, and other teams will also develop their cars. They don’t sleep.

The 79-year-old former driver believes that Ferrari will pose a greater challenge in the upcoming races because they have the fastest engine. However, as he points out, it still struggles to be reliable: Leclerc had to retire in Sakhir due to a power unit issue. I think that at the moment, Ferrari has the fastest engine. But how can the fastest engine be helpful if it’s not reliable? However, yes, their top speed is what it is, and we have to deal with it. Also, if we come to a circuit like Monza, we will see what happens there.

The team boss Christian Horner also dismissed the possibility of Red Bull winning all 23 races. « Twenty-three races is a marathon. It’s about being consistent throughout the season. Bahrain was a great start… But we expect our rivals to come back strong in the upcoming races. »

This speech from Red Bull can be seen as empty words. Especially when we look at the pace of their cars compared to the others. However, as Christian Horner reminds us, the season will be long and many things can still happen.
