The Weekly #1: The F1 news to remember from the past 7 days

This week, the Motors Inside editorial team presents 5 news highlights for you to remember if you didn’t have time to stay informed. This short and simple format highlights the following news:

The schedule of the F1 2023 presentation dates is complete.

All Formula 1 teams have now announced the date on which they will present their 2023 cars. Haas was the last team without a date. The date is now known and it is actually the one that will unveil its F1 car first, as it will be next Tuesday, January 31st, 2023.

Ferrari and AlphaTauri in private test drives

The Scuderia Ferrari rolled for three days at Fiorano, on their test track with a SF21, which is from 2021 as required by the regulations. Schwartzman, Sainz, and Leclerc took turns during the three days in front of enthusiastic fans to get back in shape.

AlphaTauri did the same at Imola with Nyck de Vries and Yuki Tsunoda.

The FIA is restructuring.

The F1 department of the International Automobile Federation is restructuring and notably welcomes a well-known Formula 1 engineer, Steve Nielsen. Having worked with several F1 teams, he will now be in charge of race management during the Grand Prix and sports management the rest of the time. Nicholas Tombazis becomes the director of single-seaters (including regulations development), while Tim Gross and François Sicard also have changes in their positions.

The imbroglio between the President of the FIA and F1.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the President of the FIA, reacted to the possible acquisition of Formula 1 by Saudi Arabia for 20 billion dollars. This communication was not appreciated by the commercial rights managers of F1, who reminded the President of the FIA to mind his own business in a statement addressed to all teams and, of course, the FIA.

As a bonus: The ART GP team in F2 with a 100% French line up.

The Formula 2 grid is now complete and the good news for ART GP, a French team, is that they will be fielding two talented French drivers. Théo Pourchaire, the 2022 F2 runner-up, will be returning for another season, alongside the 2022 F3 champion, Victor Martins.
