6.2 million paid by Red Bull to take part in F1 2023 championship

The entry fees paid by F1 teams depend on their ranking and points won in 2022. Red Bull will logically have the biggest entry fee, with over 5 million euros to pay to the FIA.

6.2 million paid by Red Bull to take part in F1 2023 championship

Every year, Formula 1 teams are required to pay registration fees for the F1 World Championship to the FIA. The fees are due to be paid in early December of the year preceding the championship. The FIA has therefore already sent the invoice to all teams, and the teams are supposed to have already settled their registration fees.

The fees are calculated based on two elements, according to the ranking position and the points earned. The first in the championship must pay $617,687 fixed fees + $7,411 for each point scored. The other teams have the same fixed fees but must pay less per point scored: $6,174.

This amount has been valued at 7% (6.99% exactly) in 2022 compared to 2021, probably based on the inflation rate.

With this calculation, Red Bull must therefore repay 6.2 million dollars to the FIA, which is the equivalent in euros, representing 1.4 million euros more than what Mercedes had to pay last year nonetheless.

Red Bull having been fined 7 million euros a few months ago for non-compliance with the budget cap, this is therefore a new very large amount that is being taken out of Red Bull’s cash flow to the FIA.

The other teams must also pay high fees. Ferrari will have to pay over 4 million euros and nearly 3.8 million euros for Mercedes. Alpine and McLaren, close in the standings, will have to pay approximately 1.6 million euros, while the teams after the 5th place will have to pay an amount below 1 million euros. Williams is the team that fares the best as they will only have to pay “only” 667,079 dollars in registration fees next year (equivalent in Euro).

With the 10 teams, the FIA thus generates over 21.6 million euros in registration fees for Formula 1 alone.
