Alonso and Gasly make their mark in their new, unbranded team
Fernando Alonso is still officially under contract with Alpine until the end of 2022, as is Pierre Gasly with AlphaTauri, yet both drivers were able to climb into their single-seaters for next season on Monday and are driving with them today, without sponsorship.
Fernando Alonso has moved on from Alpine and will be driving with Aston Martin next year. Even though his contract runs until the end of 2022, he has been granted permission to join the green team earlier and has been able to take part in today’s tests to evaluate the Pirelli 2023 tires.
The Spanish double world champion with Renault in 2005 and 2006 has taken the wheel of a green and yellow AMR22, stripped of any sponsors. Indeed, the drivers’ contracts are linked to their sponsors and their team. While Alpine allows the Spanish driver to familiarize himself with Aston Martin now, they have not negotiated each sponsorship contract.
So it was quite an unusual sight to see with a completely blank F1 car. For the occasion, Fernando Alonso was wearing a special camouflage helmet made of black and white stripes.

Nico Hülkenberg has also settled in with his new colors at Haas, just like Oscar Piastri in orange at McLaren.
