Mick Schumacher sanctioned after colliding with Latifi in Abu Dhabi

While last year it was Nicholas Latifi who caused a problem on the track and brought out the safety car in Abu Dhabi, changing the fate of the title for Hamilton and Verstappen, it was not the case this Sunday. The Canadian driver remained clean.

This is not the case with Mick Schumacher. The Haas driver attempted a far overtaking maneuver on the Williams during the mid-race and failed to accurately judge the sizes of their cars. Being a bit optimistic, he hit the rear of the Williams with his front wing, causing both cars to spin in synchronized head-to-tail.

The FIA – International Automobile Federation, deemed Schumacher guilty and handed him a 5-second penalty during the race. The FIA also followed the regulations and issued a two-point penalty on his super license for the collision. Schumacher currently has only three penalty points on his super license out of the allowed 12. Not retained by Haas next year, he will not be in F1 in 2023 and will therefore face no further consequences.

The two drivers were able to finish the race. Latifi finished dead last, Schumacher in 16th place.
