Dietrich Mateschitz, the boss of Red Bull, has passed away

From leader of energy drinks to leader of the Formula 1 World Championship, Dietrich Mateschitz will have achieved great accomplishments. The co-founder of the Red Bull brand passed away this Saturday at the age of 78.

In 2004, Red Bull made a dramatic entry into the world of Formula 1 by acquiring Jaguar for a symbolic €1. In 2006, they bought Minardi and created Toro Rosso, which is now known as AlphaTauri.

With two teams in Formula 1 and several world champion titles won in recent years, Red Bull is an integral part of the paddock. Dietrich Mateschitz, who entrusted the Red Bull team to Christian Horner and the AlphaTauri team to Franz Tost, remains discreet in managing the F1 teams.

At the age of 78, he didn’t come to the Grand Prix very often anymore and had been last seen in the paddock in 2018.

Red Bull and AlphaTauri will pay tribute to their leader tomorrow before the Grand Prix.
