Pirelli has designed five types of tyres (compounds) for the 2022 Formula 1 season. The Italian manufacturer is required to provide three different compounds per Grand Prix: a hard tyre, a soft tyre, and an intermediate tyre. The hard tyre offers more durability but less performance, while the soft tyre provides more performance but lasts for a shorter period of time.
During the Mexican and United States Grand Prix – the next two races after Japan – the same types of tires have been selected: namely the C2, C3, and C4 compounds. Therefore, these tires correspond to the intermediate range in terms of hardness.
The tires for the last two Grand Prix of the season have not been announced yet.
