The 1989 Williams-Renault FW12C will be auctioned this weekend in Switzerland
After Schumacher's Ferrari F-300, sold for over 6 million Euros, the Williams FW14 or the F640 by Mansell, it is now the turn of the Williams FW12C to be put up for auction. Estimate: Minimum of one million Euros.
The first generation of Williams-Renault equipped with a 3.5L V10 Renault engine, with Riccardo Patrese at the wheel, will be auctioned this weekend in St Moritz. The car, which participated in 4 races in 1989, is the only non-McLaren single-seater to have achieved a pole position in 1989. It will also be used as a reserve car.
It’s Franck Williams who acquired the race car at the end of the season. The chassis, in comparison to the FW12B, incorporated the new Renault engine as well as a return to passive suspensions.
Only 5 chassis were built for the FW12C. Its particular career started as a backup car for the Monaco Grand Prix, and then it was handed over to Patrese for the French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard and three other races in Germany, Hungary, and Belgium.
The single-seater, estimated at over one million Euros, is expected to sell for between 3 and 6 million Euros according to our estimations.
