No sanction for Vettel after impeding Norris in Free Practice
Back on a narrow track, the F1 cars, much bigger this season, are difficult to manage. As a result, several incidents occurred during Free Practice, with Vettel nearly colliding with Norris. No further action has been taken by the FIA.
The FIA has confirmed this morning that no penalty will be given to Sebastian Vettel after impeding Lando Norris during the free practice sessions yesterday.
During turns 12 and 13, Norris moved to the inside of Sebastian Vettel who, not having seen him, began turning in the corner passing just a few centimeters from a collision.
« Article 37.5 of the FIA sporting code was not respected by driver number 5. No penalty. » states the press release published this morning.
« The stewards heard both drivers and team representatives and reviewed the videos. The stewards determined that car number 4 was approaching car number 5 at a higher speed at turn 11, then stayed behind the car upon reaching turn 12 before deciding to overtake. Car 4 was preparing for a fast lap while car 5 was finishing a fast lap. Since the race conditions were conducive to interference and no significant or intentional interference was found, no penalty is given to driver 4. » provides further details in the statement.
