Alpine reacts to the decisions of the contract office and the loss of Piastri
The training team of Australian driver, Oscar Piastri, confirmed that they have taken note of the decision from the contracts office, which confirms the validity of the McLaren contract.
Oscar Piastri will indeed be driving for McLaren next year. Despite having contracts with both Alpine and McLaren, the contract bureau has validated the validity of the McLaren contract, resulting in Alpine losing their protégé.
The statement is very moderate: Alpine thanks the work of the contract office on Monday and takes note of the decision they made.
« We consider the matter closed on our side and will announce our driver duo for 2023 in due course. Our focus is on the Dutch Grand Prix and securing as many points as possible in the championship battle to maintain our 4th position. »
With this decision from the Geneva Contracts Office – an office established by the FIA for disputed contracts, Alpine will therefore not be entitled to any financial compensation and will lose a driver that they have trained and taken under their wing since the beginning of their career.
The Australian driver – barely arrived in F1 – has therefore made headlines and will forever remain in the history of F1 transfers.
On its side, Alpine could sign Mick Schumacher, Daniel Ricciardo or Pierre Gasly.
