“There will be no French Grand Prix in 2023,” confirms Domenicali
In the columns of the newspaper L'Equipe, Stefano Domenicali, the director of F1, confirms that France will not have its Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2023. Discussions are ongoing regarding Monaco and Belgium.
The next FIA World Council will take place on October 19th and should, on this occasion, validate a first provisional F1 calendar for 2023. However, hopes were dashed on Wednesday evening when l’Equipe revealed a quote from Stefano Domenicali stating that there will be no Grand Prix in 2023 for France.
The French Grand Prix had not yet renewed its contract with Formula 1, and during last July’s French Grand Prix, leaked information already hinted at possible alternations between the Belgian and French Grand Prix in the future. The Belgian Grand Prix, taking place this weekend, has also not been confirmed by Formula 1 or the FIA.
Domenicali confirms that negotiations are still ongoing, not for 2023 but for the future and 2024: We are still in discussions with the Federation and even the government.
At the time of publishing this information, no reaction has been published by the French Grand Prix or the FIA.
