Sergeant has been officially confirmed as a full-time F1 driver for Williams in 2023

Williams has secured its new driver for the 2023 season! It's the young American prodigy, Logan Sargeant, who will replace Nicholas Latifi. It's an open secret as Williams had already confirmed their interest in the young American, but there were still a few conditions that needed to be met before the confirmation could be made.

Sergeant has been officially confirmed as a full-time F1 driver for Williams in 2023

Logan Sargeant needed to have his super license in order to be able to race in Formula 1. This super license is calculated based on the number of points acquired during practice in F1 and results in lower categories. Sargeant had to finish at worst 6th in the Formula 2 championship in order to acquire his super license for 2023.

By finishing 4th in the F2 championship with Carlin, and being the top rookie, Sargeant has thus achieved his goal and will therefore be driving for Williams next year, after confirmation from the British team.

“It is a great honor and a dream come true to have the opportunity to race for Williams Racing in F1,” commented the 21-year-old driver, originally from Florida.

A huge thank you to the people at Williams and Dorilton Motor Sports for the support they have shown me since I joined the team at the United States Grand Prix last year.

Being part of the Williams Driver Academy in the previous years has given me a great platform to improve as a driver and prepare for the following categories. I am ready and super excited to be there and help the team’s progress, concluded Sargeant.

Logan Sargeant will therefore be driving in F1 after only one season in F2 and will be the first American driver to be confirmed since Alexander Rossi in 2015. He will be piloting alongside Alexander Albon, with Nicholas Latifi hence vacating his seat.

Jost Capito, team principal of the Williams team since the takeover by Dorilton Capital, is very happy to welcome their new driver.

We are super excited to officially welcome Logan to the team for next year. Since joining our academy in 2021, he has integrated perfectly into the Grove team, particularly excelling in the simulator, and has recently been able to participate in 4 testing sessions. He has been a very strong rookie in F2 and we are incredibly eager to see him race in F1.

Logan Sargeant will be driving for Williams as of this week for the end-of-season tests.
