New engines installed on Verstappen and Perez’s Red Bull cars before the race
It was predictable, considering the level of performance and the known troubles experienced during Saturday's qualifications, that both Red Bull drivers, Verstappen and Perez, had new elements of thermal and electrical power units installed for the Hungarian Grand Prix race.
The International Automobile Federation has just released the components installed in the Parc Fermé by the teams before the Hungarian Grand Prix. Red Bull is mainly involved.
The Red Bull team has indeed installed new power units on the cars of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, by drawing from the team’s available seasonal quota. As a result, both drivers will not receive any penalties.
The statement specifies that the team has installed a new internal combustion engine and a new turbo for each of its drivers. New MGU-H and MGU-K engines have also been replaced, as well as the batteries, the electronic components, and the exhaust outlet.
Regarding the thermal engine, electric motors, and turbo, Red Bull is tapping into its last option before facing penalties. The engine quota is limited to 3 per season in 2022. The team is allowed to use 2 different batteries per season and thus also complies with its quota, just like the exhaust outlet, which can be replaced 7 times (8 times per season).
