As the popularity of Formula 1 continues to grow, certain abuses from fans are becoming more prominent in the stands and on social media. In order to combat these abuses and demand even more respect from spectators and fans around the world, the FIA, drivers, and Liberty Media are rallying together.

In a short film, called “Drive out,” just unveiled by Formula 1, the drivers, one by one, explain that respect is important.

The statement explains that passion and competition are two completely different aspects of sports, and that sometimes certain fans, journalists, presenters, or drivers may receive abusive messages or inappropriate comments.

The press release specifies that these comments are inappropriate and unacceptable and should not occur in Formula 1 or elsewhere.

The video, which lasts 50 seconds, asks fans who do not respect these rules of sport not to come and not to be part of Formula 1. The 20 drivers, accompanied by Stefano Domenicali (F1 CEO) and Mohammed Ben Sulayem (FIA President), deliver the following message:

Formula 1 is a competition and rivalry. But it is also about respect. Respect towards our competitors, towards our fans, and towards the entire F1 family. Any kind of abuse is unacceptable.

If you cannot be respectful, we cannot allow you to be part of our sport. We cannot let those who think they can take advantage of others get away with it. We have the duty to ask them not to do it and say “stop”.

We act together as a community to stop those who harass online, and we cannot allow harassment to happen during our races.

We also need social media to denounce their abuses. Those who hide behind social media while exhibiting such behavior are not our fans.

We are united and we ask you to join us in putting an end to this in all sports and in society.
