Aston Martin welcomed star Sebastian Vettel at the start of the 2021 season for its return as a Formula 1 constructor. 2 years later, with modest results, the team loses a four-time world champion in the form of Sebastian Vettel, who has just announced his retirement from Formula 1.
Lawrence Stroll, owner of Aston Martin F1, has been very praising about the German: « I want to thank Sebastian from the bottom of my heart for the great work he has done at Aston Martin. We would have preferred for him to stay with us next year, but he is doing what he thinks is best for him and his family. He has achieved great races with us and his expertise has been very beneficial to the team. He is one of the best in F1 and it has been a privilege to work with him. He will be driving with us until the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which will be his 300th Grand Prix. We will make sure to give him a nice farewell! »
Mick Krack, who was promoted as team director this season, also believes that Vettel is a big loss for the team. Sebastian is a super-fast, intelligent, and strategic driver. We will miss his qualities. We have learned a lot from him and all of that will still benefit the team after his departure. When we become competitive, we can say that he was one of the key pieces in these improvements and we can only be grateful to him.
Sebastian Vettel, for his part, confirmed his commitment to the remaining 10 races in order to achieve the best possible results: “I hope that the work I did last year and this season is useful for the development of the team and that they will be able to win races in the future. I will continue to work hard for the rest of the season and the next 10 races.”
Vettel confirms that this decision was difficult to make and does not give any indication about his future: (e) The decision to retire from F1 was not an easy one to make. However, I wish to take some time to think about what I will do next and also spend more time with my family.
