On Friday, July 8th at 7:30 PM, during the drivers’ briefing that took place after the qualifications, Sebastian Vettel left the meeting, frustrated and before the end of the session.
Violating Article 12.2.1.F of the international sports code and the F1 sporting regulations, the German driver has been fined €25,000, suspended. In the event of a repeat offense this season, Sebastian Vettel will be compelled to pay this amount.
The FIA statement suggests that « Formula 1 drivers must be role models for other drivers around the world, and that Vettel failed to live up to this standard at this meeting. »
The press release also explains that Vettel has apologized unreservedly for his behavior after meeting with the race director, and therefore, the sanction is not directly punitive.
